Connecting Essay 1

This is a photograph I found on the internet of a water fountain. I believe this image shows off the creative use of light very well through the use of colours and lighting. The colourfulness of the image makes the image stand out because they are very bright and bold. Another elements that is good about this image is the use of reflection, this makes the photograph look more realistic as it shows a lot of detail, it also gives the image a 3d effect. Depth is also used in this image to show difference, there is also a contrast between the reflective focal point of this image and the background which again shows off depth.

This is a photograph that I took myself of a fountain, this photograph uses reflection to show off the creative use of light. The use of reflection is very effective in this photograph as it makes the images have greater detail and it looks more realistic, especially with the details in the water. Another element that makes this image more effective is the wide range of bright colours; this makes the image stand out more. Depth is also used in this image which gives the sense of distance and makes the water in the photograph seem like it it goes on forever. Finally, movement is shown in this photograph through the use of the patterns in the water which is created by the ripples in the water.

These images are very similar due to the fact that both the images are of fountains and they have similar colours; blue and orange. Another similarity is through the use of movement which is shown because of the ripples in the water. The use of movement makes the image look a lot more realistic. The use of depth is also used in both of these images, this gives a more 3d effect and makes the photograph stand out more.

Connecting Essay 5

This is an image I found on the internet of a silhouette. I really like this image because the silhouette is done very well, as well as the hat which makes the image stand out. I also like the fact that the image is in black and white because it creates a sense of mystery. Tone is also used in this image which creates a 3d effect and makes the image look more realistic, the tone in this image also give it a sense of depth which adds character to the photograph.

This is a photograph that I took myself. I really like this image because of the contrast between the background and the silhouette. I also like the pink feather boa as it makes the photograph stand out more due to the bright colour of it. Tone is also a key element of this image, as it makes the image look more realistic and 3d. If I could improve this image I would ensure that the background was completely white, so its looks more professional.

These photographs are very similar as they are both silhouettes of people. Both images have a very obvious contrast between the background and the focal points of the image. Both images also use tone, the effect of this is that the images have a more realistic and 3d look. Another similarity is both the images have the same composition, which is a central composition; this draws the viewers attention to the image as it is right in the centre and it also takes up almost the whole canvas. In my opinion, the photograph I took is better because it has colour which makes it stand out more.

Connecting Essay 2

This is an image that I found on the internet to show off my theme of the creative use of light. I really enjoy this image because of the use of reflection between the rain and the lights which gives the image a sense of mystery, especially as the colours of the photograph are quite dark and gloomy. Another thing I like about this is the use of depth which gives this image a more realistic and 3d effect. The blurred motion gives this image a sense of movement.

This is an image I took myself at a train station, I really like this image because of the contrast between the blurred train and the platform; the blurred train gives a sense of movement. Another thing that I like about this image is the use of light because there is also a contrast between the black, dark background and the illuminated focal point of the image; this makes the image stand out and it also draws the viewers attention towards the focal point of the image. The use of depth is also very effective in this image as it gives it a more realistic and 3d effect.

These photographs are very similar as there are both photographs of moving trains and both images were taken at night. Both images use motion blur which gives a more realistic and 3d effect. Another similarity these photographs have is the use of contrast, in these images there is a contrast between the dark background of the sky and the illuminated train and platform. One difference is that the picture that I found on the internet has more reflection; in my opinion I think that my photograph is better because it is simple yet appealing to viewers, where as the image that I found on the internet is too messy as it has a lot going on.

Connecting Essay 3

This is a photograph I found on the internet, I believe this image is very good because of the contrast between the flame of the candle and the rest of the image, the flames make the image stand out because it is the only source of light in the image. Another aspect that makes this image stand is the reflection of the melted wax and the flames, this gives the photograph a 3d effect and makes it look more realistic. I also like the fact that there are multiple candles in this photograph because it shows off repetition, I believe this is very effective because if it was just one candle it wouldn't stand out as much.

This is a photograph that I took myself, I really like this photograph because of the way it shows of the creative use of light. There is a good contrast between the bright flame and the rest of the image, which makes the image stand out more. The use of reflection is also used in this image, the flame from the candle can be seen in the reflection of the wax, this gives the photograph a more 3d and realistic effect. Another aspect of this image which makes it stand out is the background, the background of this image has many patterns which is also contrasting from the smooth white candles. Depth is also shown in this image, as you can see, the candles at the back of the image look much smaller than the ones at the front, this gives the image a 3d effect and shows distance.

These two photographs are similar in many different ways, for example they both use candles to show off the creative use of light. Both of the photographs also have reflection which gives the images a more realistic look to them. Another factor both of these images have is the depth, this effect shows distance and gives the images a more 3d effect. In my opinion, I believe that my photograph is better because I think that in the image I found on the internet is too busy, whereas my photography have a background which contrast with the candles.

Real Friends & All Time Low - Work Diary

In my own time, I went to a gig to photograph, I did the photography using the effect of motion blur. I believe that these photographs came out pretty well considering that I was quite far away. The lights in the venue were very colourful, so I made the shutter speed longer and moved the camera around as I shot a photograph. The photograph came out very well because they are very colourful and it looked abstract.
This is my favourite photograph from the shoot. I really like it because of the way light is used. The motion blur gives the effect of movement which it a creative way to portray the use of light. I really enjoy the use of all the different colours in this image because they are bold and bright, they make the image stand out.

This is another photograph I really like from my shoot as again, it shows off the creative use of light very well. This image has good contrast as there is a lot of black in the background, therefore the bright colours stand out even more. If I were to take this image again, I would change the exposure to make the focal point of the image more obvious.

In the next session, I would like to show the creative use of light through the use of depth. To do this I will do a location shoot around the college and capture depth in a variety of ways. I will try and portray the theme of the creative use of light in a more obvious way and subtly, most of this shoot will just be me experimenting with both depth and the creative use of light.

Research Log - Michael Ross

I chose Michael Ross' photography because he shows off the creative use of light in a number of ways, from light drawing to night photograph to the use of water reflections. I really like all his photography because the way he portrays light is very unique and abstract.

This photograph is very creative because of the use of colour. The use of reflection also is a very good way of showing off the creative use of light. The contrast between the colours in the glasses and the white background make the image stand out. The use of relocation is also shown in this photograph, this gives the image a 3d effect and makes it look more realistic.

This photograph shows off the creative use of light through light drawings. I really like this photograph because I have never seen a light drawing in this way, the image is very abstract and unique and honestly it doesn't look like a photograph at all. There is the use of contrast in this image, which again makes it stand out, the black background makes the bright colourful lights the focal point of the image and it draws the viewers attention to this image,

This photograph shows off the creative use of light through reflection. I really like this photograph because of how simple it is. There is also contrast in this image between the bright pink and the black which makes the image stand out. Reflection is a very important factor in this image because it gives it a 3d effect and it makes it look more realistic which I believe is important, especially in this image because the photograph is done so well that it doesn't even look like a photograph.

This photograph portrays the creative use of light very well, through the contrast of the sky and the buildings, there is also the use of depth in this image which is shown through shadows; this gives the image a 3d effect. Another aspect of this image that I enjoy is the way the creative use of light is shown through the sky, as it looks unrealistic and abstract but this makes the image stand out because it is almost unbelievable that this is a photograph.

His photography influences me to try out a number of different way to show off the creative use of light in a creative and abstract manner.
Overall, I really enjoy Michael Ross' photography because each photograph is different and the way he portrays the creative use of light is unique and creative.
