Motion Blur - Image Bank

Motion blur is a very good was of showing off the creative use of light because it does it in a subtle but effective way. In the photographs above, the creative use of light is shown through the use of contrast, with black and white or through different colours; this is very effective and it makes the photographs stand out and it portrays the creative use of light. In my next shoot, I am going to try and shoot photographs using motion blur.

Research Log - Alan Sailer

I chose Alan Sailer's photography because he portrays the creative use of light through colour and movement. I really enjoy his photography because is is very unique and abstract. Furthermore, I really like the way he shows movement through destruction.

I really like this photograph because of the use of colour and movement. The bright colours make the image stand out and the use of movement is a creative way to show off the creative use of light because it makes a photograph more exciting. There is also a contrast between the all the colours used in this photograph which again makes the photograph stand out.

This is one of my favourite photographs by Alan Sailer. I really like this because how is shows off destruction in a more creative way. The colours in this image are very bright and colourful which makes it stand out and the use of movement in this image is also very effective. There is also the formal element, form, as you can see by the shadows on the background; I think is very effective because it creates a 3d effect.

I really like this photograph because if the way movement and destruction is shown. The colours in this image are also very effective because of the contrast between the bright red strawberry and the blue background; this makes the photograph stand out.

I really like this photograph by Alan Sailer, again because of the colours and use of movement shown through destruction. This is my favourite photograph because you can actually see the bullet going through the cigarettes. Colour is a key element in this photograph because the bold blue and the bright orange contrast with each other which makes the image stand out.

His photography influences me to photograph in more abstract, destructive ways.
Overall, I really like Alan Sailer's photography because of the use of movement, colour and destruction.  Although the way he photographs is very unique and abstract, his photography is basically always the same.

Motion Blur - Work Diary

In this session, I did a location shoot of motion blur. I believe this shoot went well because it shows of the creative use of light in a more abstract way; as you can not directly tell from the shoot, the key theme is the creative use of light, light is portrayed in a more subtle and unique way. Overall, I found this shoot quite easy, because all I had to do way change the shutter speed to a higher setting and the walk around and take pictures of objects whilst moving the camera around.

This is my favourite photograph from the shoot because of how light is portrayed through the use of movement. There is a contrast between the white background and the black and white colours of the picture on the wall. I also really like the composition of this photograph, and the use of converging lines makes this picture have a 3d effect to it. Although, if I were to improve this image, I would try and make the background not have a reflection on it.

This is another photograph from my shoot that I really like because of the wide variety of colours and they way they have blurred together. The composition of this is also converging lines which makes the image look better because it creates a 3d effect. The creative use of light is shown very well in this photograph because of the bright light and colours shown, the key theme of light is subtle but very effective.

My next shoot will be at a gig that I am going to, I am also going to photograph motion blur in the venue because there will be a lot of colourful lighting. I hope that the lighting will give me the same effect as if I did a light drawing. The creative use of light will be portrayed very well as I am photographing because of how abstract the images will come out.

Research Log - Brian Matthew Hart

I chose Brian Matthew Hart's photography because he shows of the creative of light in an unique and abstract way. His photographs is mostly made up of light drawings. I really like his work because of the specific autumn colours that he uses and how complex his light drawings are.

I really like this photograph because of the amount of detail in it. As you can see, there is not a bike in the photograph but the light drawing off a bike is in great detail which makes this image stand out. I also really like the contrast between the bright yellow light and the black background, because again this makes the image stand out more.
This is one of my favourite photographs by Brian Matthew Hart because of the amount of detail he has used. As you can tell he has taken multiple photographs and put them together to create an overall photograph. The colour he uses complement each other which gives the image a warm, unique feel to it.

I really like this photograph because of how well the subject of the image is outlined in great detail. The colour contrast is also done very well because the black background and the bright luminous red light drawing. I also really like how Brian Matthew Hart has incorporated two photographs, one of as light drawing an don elf fireworks.

This is one of my favourite photographs by Brian Matthew Hart, again because of the great detail he puts in this photograph. This image is very abstract and unique which makes it stand out. I really like the contrast between the black background and autumn colours of the light drawings. Although in this photograph you can see shadows which gives the image a 3d effect.

His photography influences me to be more abstract and creative with my own light photographs.
Overall, I really like Brian Matthew Hart's photography because of how creative, detailed and abstract his work is and how he sticks to the same kind of colours. Although, I do believe he could experiment with more colours.

Location Movement - Work Diary

In this session I tried to recreate my previous shoot but in a location setting. I used mostly doors as the background of my shoot, I believe this worked well but I do prefer the shoot I did in the studio because it showed off movement and the creative use of light. The colours used in this shoot were very bright and bold which made the photographs stand out more.

I really like this photograph because of the way the subjects hands are shown, in this photograph his hands are far less blurry which creates a better effect. The contrast between the background and the subject makes this photograph stand out. Although, if I were to improve this photograph I would make the lines in the background more straight.

My favourite thing about this photograph is the contrast between the background and the subject of this image because it makes the photograph stand out. I also really enjoy the way the face us very blurry whilst the subjects hand and rest of body is clear. If I were to improve this photograph I would make sure there wasn't a reflection in the background.

In the next session, I will expand on the idea of movement and the creative use of light by attempting to do some motion blur photography. I will do this shoot in a location setting and I will do it by setting the shutter speed to a longer setting and I will go out and move the camera. In all my movement photography so far, it has been the subject that has been moved but in this shoot I will move the camera instead.

Movement Studio - Work Diary

In this session, I went in to the studio and shot movement. I found this task quite easy because it was simple to set the camera up and to take the photographs. To do this shoot, I set the camera's shutter speed to be longer and I asked people to shake their heads. The photographs are very effective because they show off movement really well and I really like the contrast between the blurry faces and the clear rest off body. I believe this shoot shows off the creative use of light through the use of contrast between the black background and the subjects of my images.

I really like this photograph because movement is shown well. It shows off the creative use of light through the background and the subject and also through the use of movement. I think that the colour contrast also makes this photograph creative because you can clearly see the subject of the photograph because of the black background.

This is my favourite photograph from the shoot because of the way the subject is using his hands. The contrast of colours is also done very well, because the subject is wearing a black jacket which is camouflaged with the black background, it gives the illusion of floating hands which looks really unique and creative. Although, if I were to improve this image, I would try and make the subjects hand less blurred.

In the next session, I will try and recreate this shoot but in a location setting. I will have to do this shoot inside because of the shutter speed settings, but I believe this idea will also look good on other backgrounds.
