Real Friends & All Time Low - Work Diary

In my own time, I went to a gig to photograph, I did the photography using the effect of motion blur. I believe that these photographs came out pretty well considering that I was quite far away. The lights in the venue were very colourful, so I made the shutter speed longer and moved the camera around as I shot a photograph. The photograph came out very well because they are very colourful and it looked abstract.
This is my favourite photograph from the shoot. I really like it because of the way light is used. The motion blur gives the effect of movement which it a creative way to portray the use of light. I really enjoy the use of all the different colours in this image because they are bold and bright, they make the image stand out.

This is another photograph I really like from my shoot as again, it shows off the creative use of light very well. This image has good contrast as there is a lot of black in the background, therefore the bright colours stand out even more. If I were to take this image again, I would change the exposure to make the focal point of the image more obvious.

In the next session, I would like to show the creative use of light through the use of depth. To do this I will do a location shoot around the college and capture depth in a variety of ways. I will try and portray the theme of the creative use of light in a more obvious way and subtly, most of this shoot will just be me experimenting with both depth and the creative use of light.

Motion Blur - Work Diary

In this session, I did a location shoot of motion blur. I believe this shoot went well because it shows of the creative use of light in a more abstract way; as you can not directly tell from the shoot, the key theme is the creative use of light, light is portrayed in a more subtle and unique way. Overall, I found this shoot quite easy, because all I had to do way change the shutter speed to a higher setting and the walk around and take pictures of objects whilst moving the camera around.

This is my favourite photograph from the shoot because of how light is portrayed through the use of movement. There is a contrast between the white background and the black and white colours of the picture on the wall. I also really like the composition of this photograph, and the use of converging lines makes this picture have a 3d effect to it. Although, if I were to improve this image, I would try and make the background not have a reflection on it.

This is another photograph from my shoot that I really like because of the wide variety of colours and they way they have blurred together. The composition of this is also converging lines which makes the image look better because it creates a 3d effect. The creative use of light is shown very well in this photograph because of the bright light and colours shown, the key theme of light is subtle but very effective.

My next shoot will be at a gig that I am going to, I am also going to photograph motion blur in the venue because there will be a lot of colourful lighting. I hope that the lighting will give me the same effect as if I did a light drawing. The creative use of light will be portrayed very well as I am photographing because of how abstract the images will come out.

Location Movement - Work Diary

In this session I tried to recreate my previous shoot but in a location setting. I used mostly doors as the background of my shoot, I believe this worked well but I do prefer the shoot I did in the studio because it showed off movement and the creative use of light. The colours used in this shoot were very bright and bold which made the photographs stand out more.

I really like this photograph because of the way the subjects hands are shown, in this photograph his hands are far less blurry which creates a better effect. The contrast between the background and the subject makes this photograph stand out. Although, if I were to improve this photograph I would make the lines in the background more straight.

My favourite thing about this photograph is the contrast between the background and the subject of this image because it makes the photograph stand out. I also really enjoy the way the face us very blurry whilst the subjects hand and rest of body is clear. If I were to improve this photograph I would make sure there wasn't a reflection in the background.

In the next session, I will expand on the idea of movement and the creative use of light by attempting to do some motion blur photography. I will do this shoot in a location setting and I will do it by setting the shutter speed to a longer setting and I will go out and move the camera. In all my movement photography so far, it has been the subject that has been moved but in this shoot I will move the camera instead.

Movement Studio - Work Diary

In this session, I went in to the studio and shot movement. I found this task quite easy because it was simple to set the camera up and to take the photographs. To do this shoot, I set the camera's shutter speed to be longer and I asked people to shake their heads. The photographs are very effective because they show off movement really well and I really like the contrast between the blurry faces and the clear rest off body. I believe this shoot shows off the creative use of light through the use of contrast between the black background and the subjects of my images.

I really like this photograph because movement is shown well. It shows off the creative use of light through the background and the subject and also through the use of movement. I think that the colour contrast also makes this photograph creative because you can clearly see the subject of the photograph because of the black background.

This is my favourite photograph from the shoot because of the way the subject is using his hands. The contrast of colours is also done very well, because the subject is wearing a black jacket which is camouflaged with the black background, it gives the illusion of floating hands which looks really unique and creative. Although, if I were to improve this image, I would try and make the subjects hand less blurred.

In the next session, I will try and recreate this shoot but in a location setting. I will have to do this shoot inside because of the shutter speed settings, but I believe this idea will also look good on other backgrounds.

Studio Shadow Portraiture - Work Diary

In this session I went in to the studio and shot shadow portraiture. Overall, I believe this shoot went well even though I did not have that much time. I used a white background which make the subjects of my photographs stand out. Although, to improve my shoot, I would have made the subjects stand further away from the background so that the shadow didn't go onto the background.

This is one of my favourite photographs from my shoot because of the shadows in it. The shadows create a 3d effect on the subject of the image. I also really like the fact there is a white background, especially compared to the dark skin and hair of the subject; this creates contrast which makes the photograph stand out more.

Shadows are also shown off very well in this photograph, which creates a 3d effect and shows off contrast. I also real like the contrast of the red t-shirt and the rest of the photograph because the bold colour makes the photograph stand out more. If if were to improve this image, I would make the subject stand further away from the background because of the shadow on it.

In the next session I will go out and do a location shoot of building and other objects that show shadows, to do this I will do a shoot at my home and places around where I live. I would also like to incorporate movement into my photography as I believe it is also an effective way to show off the creative use off light. I will do this shoot at night because light will stand out more when the background of my photographs are dark.

Night Photography - Work Diary

I did this shoot around where I live, I believe the photographs came out well because it shows of the creative use of light and it also incorporates the formal element of movement which makes more unique photographs. I found this shoot difficult because I had to mess around with the setting to try and get the best possible photographs, but after I adjusted my camera to the correct setting the photographs came out better which made the task easier.

This is my favourite photograph from the shoot because of the movement and they way light is shown. The use of light in this image is done very well because it is very contrasting as the background is very dark whilst the train station is illuminated and bright. Also, the lights coming from the back of the train are very effective as it shows off movement. If I were to improve this image, I would make the street lamps less bright and bold.

I like this photograph because of the contrast of light and dark, the background is much darker than the focal point of the image which makes it stand out more. Movement is also used in this photograph which makes the image better and the blurred light of the train suggests a journey. I also enjoy the contrast between the blurred train and the platform, because again it suggests movement but doesn't make the picture look too messy.

In the next session, I would like to expand on movement in showing off the creative use of light. To do this I will use the studio and photograph people and make them have a blurred face. I believe this is a good way to expand on my chosen topic because in the above shoot, there are signs of movement from the trains, therefore expanding on this to also show off the creative use of light will be good to attempt and experiment with.

Initial Response Shoot - Work Diary

In this session we done our initial response shoot for our chosen topic, which for me is the creative use of light. My idea was to get some candles and put them around so show off light. This task was quite difficult because it was quite windy outside so the candles kept blowing out. Overall, if I were to improve this shoot, I would make sure I done it on a day with better weather so I could have captured more photographs.

I really like this photograph because of the use of light compared to the dark backgrounds, I also like the fact that the light of the flame reflects on the wax because it shows reflection and depth. I believe this photograph came out really well even though the task was quite difficult. I edited it to make the background darker so the light from the candles stood out more, this gives the photograph a more creative look and you can clearly see the bright candle flame.

I also really enjoy this photograph because of the way light is portrayed. The image shows of a creative use of light but in a simple way. I edited this image to make the background darker to show of the light, I believe this has given my photograph a more mysterious look. If I were to improve this image I would try and make the background completely dark to show off the light even more.

In the next session, I would like to experiment with light drawings as I believe that is a creative way to show light. To do this I will use a torch to draw the light drawings in a dark room and then I will make the shutter speed long and use my torch to draw. I hope this shoot goes well because I have never done anything like this before. I would also like to photograph shadows in a creative way to show the creative use of light, my idea is to use coloured glass and show the shadows so they are a different colour.

Silhouette - Work Diary

In this session I went into the studio and photographed silhouettes. To do this I went into the studio and used a white background and lighting to create a silhouette. I believe this shoot went very well as it was quite easy and simple to do but the results came out well.

This is one of my best pictures from the shoot. I like this photograph because of how well it shows off silhouettes. Although there is some colour in this image, I believe it makes it look more unique and creative. The white background contrast with the colours well as it shows off the black silhouette even more. If I were to improve this photograph, I would make sure the background was completely white because as you can see, at the top of the image, it isn't completely white.

I also really like this image because of the contrast between the silhouette and the white background. I believe the contrast is very effective because you can still clearly see what the focal point of this image is supposed to be through the use of shape. I also think the composition is done very well as it is off-centre; this gives the photograph a more creative look.

In the next session, I would like to re-edit some of these silhouette photographs and put them in front of different background because I believe that would show a creative use of light. After that, I would like to go back into the studio and photograph shadows on people and objects in a dramatic way to also show creative use of light.

Water Reflection - Work Diary

In this session I wanted to show the creative use of light through water reflection. I believe this shoot turned out really well because you can clearly see the reflection of the person or object that I photographed. In my shoot I mainly took photos of people standing by the edge of the water to show the disrupted reflection, but I also took photographs of objects to show their reflection. In some photographs the reflection was very distorted because of the moving water, I believe that this is very effective because it shows movement and distortion. On the other had when the water was still, the reflection was even clearer and that also looked effective. Light is shown quite subtly in this shoot because it is not obvious that light is the main theme, although I believe this idea was creative and unique whilst still portraying light.

This is my favourite picture that I took in this shoot, I really like it because of the central composition which ensures that the focal point of the image is clear to the viewer. I also really enjoy this image because of the distorted reflection in the water, this makes the image look more abstract and it also portrays light.

I also really like this photograph because of the distorted reflection as it gives the image a unique look. I also really like the composition of this image as it is slightly off-centre. The ripples in the water give this photograph a 3d effect. Light is shown in this photograph through the use of darker or lighter tones in the water, although it is not obvious that light is the main theme in this image, the use of light is done very well.

In next session I would like to try and experiment with silhouettes, I will do this in the studio using a spotlight. I think this is a good idea to show the creative use of light as not only is it creative, it also shows of light in an obvious way. Furthermore, I would also like to try and photograph more shadows, for example, in the studio I will photograph half of a persons face in the shadows.

Light Drawing/Shadows - Work Diary

In this session I did both photography with shadows and I experimented with using light drawings. I believe these shoots went really well because I came out with some great pictures. To photograph shadows I got some bottles and shot pictures of the shadows created, as one of the bottles was green there was a green shadow which made the photograph look unique. I believe it was a really good shoot because the sun was out, therefore photographing shadows was easy. I also did a photo shoot using light drawings as I believe it is a creative way to show light. I also believe this shoot went very well as the photographs came out so much better than I expected.

These are my light drawing photographs, I really like the way they turned out because they are really clear. First of all when shooting these photographs I used the torch on my phone to make the light line drawing more obvious. Afterwards, I experimented with using a balloon and a torch which was really effective.

These are the photographs I took of shadows. I also believe these images turned out really well because you can clearly see the shadows from the bottles. I also really like the way that green bottle photographs turned out because I wasn't expecting it to work so well. As it was sunny outside the photographs came out really clear.

In the next lesson, I am going to experiment with light and water, to do this I am going to go to a pond and photograph people and objects and their reflection. I believe this will be quite a good shoot because it is a creative yet subtle way to show the creative use of light. I am also going to try and shoot more shadows in different ways to expand my project and to show of the creative use of light.
